چکیده
The main objective of the working paper series of the IIMA is to help faculty members to test out their research findings at the pre-publication stage. Abstract We address the permutation flowshop scheduling problem with earliness and tardiness penalties (E/T) and common due date of jobs. Large number of process and discrete parts industries follow flowshop type of production process. There are very few results reported for multi-machine E/T scheduling problems. We show that the problem can be subdivided into three groups-one, where the due date is such that all jobs are necessarily tardy; the second, where the due date is such that it is not tight enough to act as a constraint on scheduling decision; and the third is a group of problems where the due date is in between the above two. We develop analytical results and heuristics for problems arising in each of these three classes. Computational results of the heuristics are reported. Most of the problems in this research are addressed for the first time in the literature. For problems with existing heuristics, the heuristic solution is found to perform better than the existing results.

Single-machine scheduling considering carryover sequence-dependent setup time, and earliness and tardiness penalties of production
Production scheduling is one of the very important problems that industry and production are confronted with it. Production scheduling is often planned in the industrial environments while productivity in production can improve significantly the expansion of simultaneous optimization of the scheduling plan. Production scheduling and production are two areas that have attracted much attention in...
متن کاملA cloud-based simulated annealing algorithm for order acceptance problem with weighted tardiness penalties in permutation flow shop scheduling
Make-to-order is a production strategy in which manufacturing starts only after a customer's order is received; in other words, it is a pull-type supply chain operation since manufacturing is carried out as soon as the demand is confirmed. This paper studies the order acceptance problem with weighted tardiness penalties in permutation flow shop scheduling with MTO production strategy, the objec...
متن کاملSolving the Single Machine Problem with Quadratic Earliness and Tardiness Penalties
Nowadays, scheduling problems have a considerable application in production and service systems. In this paper, we consider the scheduling of n jobs on a single machine assuming no machine idleness, non-preemptive jobs and equal process times. In many of previous researches, because of the delivery dalays and holding costs, earliness and tardiness penalties emerge in the form of linear combin...
متن کاملA Multi-objective Immune System for a New Bi-objective Permutation Flowshop Problem with Sequence-dependent Setup Times
We present a new mathematical model for a permutation flowshop scheduling problem with sequence-dependent setup times considering minimization of two objectives, namely makespan and weighted mean total earliness/tardiness. Only small-sized problems with up to 20 jobs can be solved by the proposed integer programming approach. Thus, an effective multi-objective immune system (MOIS) is ...
متن کاملMILP models and valid inequalities for the two-machine permutation flowshop scheduling problem with minimal time lags
In this paper, we consider the problem of scheduling on two-machine permutation flowshop with minimal time lags between consecutive operations of each job. The aim is to find a feasible schedule that minimizes the total tardiness. This problem is known to be NP-hard in the strong sense. We propose two mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) models and two types of valid inequalities which aim t...
